September Days

We have had a great month of September as we hosted Sally Stich who spoke on obituaries and their history and how they are being used by Baby Boomers today in remembering their lives. Then we hosted Marsha Fangmeyer at a meet and greet event as she is running for the state legislature. On the 26th we held the inaugural meeting of the Cone-flower Book Club and discussed Bob Beardslee’s book Hometown Memories. October is going to be another busy month so stay tuned and watch our calendar of events and Facebook page.

Our New Book Club

The Moonstone Bookstore and Emporium is pleased to announce the creation of a new book club here in Red Cloud.  The Cone-flower Book Club will be meeting for the first time on September 26. More information can be found in another section of our web page page. The club will be informal and meet at the bookstore once a month.

Future events

We continue on with fulfilling our plan to make our bookstore a place where our community gathers for coffee, tea, conversation and buy books. Last week we hosted our first musical performance by the Trenchant C’s, a duo of Carmi and Charles Mantis who are from Red Cloud. We are beginning to schedule future events and if you are a writer, poet, performer and have an idea please contact us as we are always looking for new opportunities.

Update on our progress

Dear Reader,

We continue to move forward in expanding our operations and programs here at the Moonstone. We have begun to publish information about our new acquisitions on our Facebook page and have begun uploading books to our online bookstore. While it has been a Nebraska summer so far it has been nice and cool here in our store with ice tea and lemonade available along with coffee and kolaches. Stop by and see us.

A Conversation With . . . Bob Beardslee

We have finally gotten over the major challenge of getting open for three of Red Cloud’s most important events. Now it is on to the summer! We have Bob Beardslee with us this Friday evening for A Conversation With . . . program. From 7-8 pm Bob will be reading from his book Hometown Memories and providing recollections of his eighty plus years in Red Cloud. A great writer, ambassador for Red Cloud, raconteur, and wonderful human being his program will be a great way to spend a Friday night. There is no charge for the event and it is open to the public. Come and join us.

Welcome to the Moonstone Bookstore!

Welcome to our bookstore’s blog. We have had an exciting two weeks as we opened to the public on May 25, 2018 and have been open ever since as folks who were visiting for the Red Cloud Alumni weekend, the Willa Cather annual conference and the BRAN (Bicycle Ride Across Nebraska) all stopped by. There were probably close to one thousand people here in Red Cloud for those events. We promise more blogs in the future and more great events here in the coming months.
